This message is currently circulating on Facebook, and on the surface it seems to make sense. Those of us who shudder to think of another four years of the Obamanation in the White House feel like we have no choice but to vote for Romney.
This sounds, like a worthy plan – and perhaps our only option. The trouble is our short memories -from 2003-2005 we gave a bunch of RINOS (Republicans In Name Only) control of the house and senate, and elected a “moderate” republican President. Republicans had a historic opportunity to actually change the course of American government. What did we get? Higher taxes, higher government spending, a walloping raise for the elected officials along with a bunch of new perks, and NOT ONE ITEM of the “Republican Platform” was successfully carried to completion. The lesser of two evils doesn’t always gain you anything.
On the contrary, when we elect weak Republicans we give fuel to the liberals. When you suffer through multiple years of the supposed conservatives maintaining the status quo and lining their own pockets, you begin to realize that nothing short of a revolution is going to change the course of American History.
The revolution doesn’t have to involve guns, but it would have to involve some radical measures. Already Republican governors are choosing not to expand Medicare, and that’s a start. But more drastic (and, on the surface, obvious) measures are needed to stop our downward spiral.
- A balanced budget
- A fair, flattened tax structure that does not discriminate based on age, gender, marital status, family size, or income level.
- Term limits for all elected offices – no more “career politicians” unless they are actually climbing the political ladder (state to federal, representative to senator, senator to president for example.)
These things seem so simple, and so obvious to the average citizen – and yet our elected officials can’t even handle these few simple changes that would go so far toward preserving the American political system, and the American way of life.
